This stage links the Laboreiro River valley to the Peneda mountain range, offering a mix of mountain and valley landscapes. You’ll follow the serene rivers Mouro, Tieiras, and Peneda, with cobblestone streets adding historic charm. The journey ends at the remarkable Peneda Sanctuary, making it a truly special experience.
Walking along the Peneda River beneath the “Fraga das Pastorinhas” massif is truly special. Ascend slowly through charming villages, reaching a rewarding view at the summit. The descent to Adrão and Soajo follows ancient paths bordered by dry stone walls.
Today’s adventure leads you from Soajo to Lindoso along ancient paths weaving through quaint villages nestled within the Soajo mountain range. As you progress, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Lima River, enhancing the charm of your journey
Lindoso, with its granite granaries and primitive castle, offers a special start to our day. As you leave this charming village behind, you embark on a mountainous adventure, traversing part of the Serra Amarela. Along the way, you will encounter old shepherd’s shelters, the beautiful village of Ermida, and the quaint Germil.
This stage links Campo do Gerês and the village of Gerês via historic paths once used by locals to access mountain resources. It offers stunning mountain scenery, including the Lamas mark peak at 958 meters altitude
Walk from Caldas do Gerês to the village of Ermida do Gerês, venturing through the heart of the Gerês mountain range. Follow the ancient paths once trodden by shepherds as they guided their cattle to the mountain meadows.
A scenic route winding between villages, adorned with stunning mountain landscapes. Notable highlights include the enchanting Rajada waterfall, Cabana de Pinhô, Lagoas do Rio Fafião, and Fojo do Lobo de Fafião.
If weather allows, don’t miss the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Arado or Fafião rivers.
Day stage between Fafião and Cabril. Upon reaching Pincães, take a pause to appreciate the traditional houses, granaries, mills, cattle courts, and the Pedra d’Água. These cultural treasures provide a glimpse into the
vibrant heritage of both the community and the region.
This stage links Cabril to Sirvozelo via paths and trails historically used by local communities to access mountainresources. Along the way, we have the chance to rest and marvel at the magnificent Fojo do Lobo de Xertelo. Additionally, there’s an option for a short detour to visit the renowned Cela Cavalos waterfall. Upon reaching Sirvozelo, the end of this leg, we’ll take a transfer to Pitoes das Junias.
The final leg of this trail through the national park unfolds between Pitões das Júnias and Tourém, spanning approximately 12.5 km between these two Barroso villages. Notably, this stage is international, as it includes a segment through Galician territory. The route consists entirely of footpaths, forest trails, and agricultural tracks, navigating the heights of the plateau.
