After leaving your accomodation, we invite you to embark on a fascinating journey through time, tracing the birth of Portugal and the rise of its Catholic Empire.
You will explore the northern region, where the cities of Guimarães and Braga played pivotal roles in the establishment of the Portuguese kingdom.
As the morning unfolds, the first stop of this exclusive tour is Guimarães, a picturesque village, where the history of Portugal began.
The city played a pivotal role in the Battle of São Mamede in 1128, which marked the beginning of the Portuguese struggle for independence from the Kingdom of León. The city’s historical center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and wandering through its cobblestone streets is like stepping back in time. The medieval architecture, narrow alleyways, and well-preserved buildings give visitors a sense of the city’s storied past. We will visit the mighty Guimarães Castle, where Portugal’s first king was born, and Largo da Oliveira will transport you to a medieval era with its charming atmosphere.
As the energies start to descend, we invite you for Lunch on a Prestigious and Historical Restaurant, Oriental.
Here, you’ll have the privilege of having a lunch harmonized with fresh and young wines, tasting local finest wines, including the renowned Vinho Verde.
After lunch, we continue our tour to Braga, where heritage and faith merge seamlessly.
Often referred to as the “Rome of Portugal” due to its rich religious heritage, Braga is a city that promises an unforgettable experience to all who visit. Established by the Romans over two thousand years ago, the city is home to several historical and architectural treasures. We will explore the Sé de Braga, the city’s cathedral, which is an architectural masterpiece. Dating back to the 12th century, it is a stunning blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The interior is equally impressive, featuring intricate altarpieces, beautifully decorated chapels, and religious relics that transport visitors to a medieval era. After the cathedral visit let the tranquility of Santa Barbara Garden enchant your senses.
Continuing our tour, still in Braga region we will visit the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, this exceptional catholic richness is matched by a charming natural environment that includes forest, lakes and panoramic views that encompass the city of Braga and the entire surrounding region. We invite you to experience the water funicular and walk between two sanctuaries on a linear route with low difficulty.
After the sanctuaries visit, we will return to your accomodation.
